The Berreyesa family
Patriarch: Nicolás Antonio Berreyesa (1761 Sinaloa – 1804 Santa Clara)
The Berreyesas, sprung from an Anza colonist and married into the Peralta family, held a wide arc of grants, San Vicente/New Almaden, Milpitas, and the Napa-county valley (Las Putas) that bears their name (Berryessa). The family suffered notoriously at American hands in 1846.
Origin
Nicolás Berreyesa (of Basque descent) came as a teenager on the 1775–76 Anza expedition and married Gertrudis Peralta (of the Anza Peralta family); his many children received grants across the Bay and North Bay.
