The Carrillo family
Patriarch: José Raimundo Carrillo (1749 Loreto, Baja California – 1809 San Diego)
The Carrillos were the leading Spanish-military family of the south coast, spanning San Diego, Santa Barbara and Los Angeles. José Raimundo's sons Carlos and José Antonio held Ventura-county ranchos and channel islands, and marriages linked the family to the de la Guerras, Vallejos and Picos. Note two intertwined Carrillo branches exist; specific register initials ('A. Carrillo') are not always resolvable to one man.
Origin
José Raimundo Carrillo came north as a soldier (probably with the 1769 Portolà/founding expeditions), rose to captain and commandant at San Diego, and married Tomasa Ignacia Lugo (daughter of soldier Francisco Lugo). A related Carrillo line (Joaquín Víctor Carrillo of Santa Barbara/Sonoma) produced daughters who married Governors Vallejo and Pico.
