The Estudillo family
Patriarch: José María Estudillo (captain, d. 1830)
The Estudillos bridged San Diego and the East Bay: the presidial captain's sons José Antonio and José Joaquín held ranchos at San Jacinto and San Leandro respectively, and marriage tied them to the Domínguez family of Rancho San Pedro. The Estudillo house in Old Town San Diego remains a landmark.
Origin
José María Estudillo was a career officer (served at Loreto, Monterey and San Diego) who commanded the San Diego presidio in the 1820s; his sons became grantees in both the San Diego and East Bay regions.
