The Peralta family
Patriarch: Luis María Peralta (1759 Sonora – 1851)
The Peraltas held Rancho San Antonio, the 44,800-acre grant covering most of the East Bay, which Luis María divided among his four sons in 1842. A southern kinsman, Juan Pablo Peralta, was co-grantee with the Yorbas of Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana, tying the family into Orange County land history.
Origin
Luis María Peralta came overland as a child on the 1775–76 Anza expedition (his father Gabriel Peralta was an Anza colonist) and served as a soldier at the San Francisco and San José presidios; rewarded with Rancho San Antonio in 1820.
