The Soto family

Patriarch: Ignacio de Soto (1749 Sinaloa – 1807 Santa Clara)

The Sotos descend from Anza colonist Ignacio Soto and are documented as grantees of numerous Monterey- and Bay-area ranchos, but 'Soto' is an extremely common surname and several register grantees cannot be reliably attached to the founding line. Grouped at surname level only, with caution.

Origin

Ignacio Soto came on the 1775–76 Anza expedition; his wife María Bárbara Espinosa de Lugo was aunt to Mariano Vallejo. Their son Francisco José de los Dolores Soto was reputedly the first child of the settlers born at San Francisco (1776).
